Sackets Harbor photographer and
poet Daniel Kantak captured hundreds of images at the historic site's 2024 North
American War of 1812 Grand Tactical. Images of the dramatic military tacticals
contrast with quiet time in the military camps, or a lady casually strolling on
the lawn. Experience the images and reflect on the past stories that unfolded
at the historic site during the War of 1812.

This annual event brings people together
for fun, healthful activities to broaden access to state public lands. The historic site partners with
the Hay Memorial Library for a StoryWalk on site. Begin your Story Walk loop at
the end of West Main Street reading pages from the featured book. Receive a
"take-and-make" gift, while the supply lasts. It's "Flag Day!" Bet the story
and "take-away" might include learning about the US flag. Adding to this StoryWalk
experience are many interpretive panels on the History Trail that tell the
story of the 29 May 1813 Second Battle of Sackets Harbor.

presentations on democracy, the Constitution, and political science themes
reflect the depth of knowledge gained from his 40+ years as professor at
Jefferson Community College. His programs at the historic site in spring and
fall each year draw audiences of life-long learners. Explore
with Ray the democratic ideals and goals that are still being sought rather
than fully realized realities. While democratic systems have made significant
progress, they are constantly evolving and facing challenges to ensure
fairness, equality, and representation for all citizens.

From
an award-winning website to an in-demand pop-up exhibition, the American
Revolution Experience, is beginning a new phase in its quest to connect modern
audiences with the fascinating story of our nation's origin. The American
Revolution Experience is traveling to scores of libraries, historical societies
and museums through 2025, introducing visitors to a cast of historical
characters with diverse experiences throughout the conflict and the places they
visited on their journey. This innovative pop-up exhibition
includes display panels and interactive digital kiosks that use storytelling,
illustration, technology and unique artifacts and primary accounts to connect
modern audiences with the people and places that shaped the birth of our
nation. Accompanying the ABT traveling
exhibition are the historic site's interpretive panels "North Country and
Sackets Harbor: Democracy in America." Themes: "The War of 1812 - The
Second War of Independence - The Power of the Nation in its Citizens;" "The
Civil War - Bending Democracy Doesn't Break;" "Revolutionary Women;" and
"Revolutionary War Veterans Settle Sackets Harbor and the Town of Hounsfield." Union Hotel building
Saturdays 10am to 4pm, Sundays

Flutes on the Fourth

The Silver Tones Flute Choir presents
their 2nd Annual 'Flutes on the 4th' at the historic
site's navy yard. A popular event where flute players of all skill levels
gather to play music together on July 4th, featuring patriotic and Civil
War-themed tunes. It's a great way to celebrate the holiday and create
beautiful music collectively.
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy this
music program in the navy yard. "The
Bosun's Call" Revolutionary War era sea chanty singers, lawn at Hall
House 7pm – 8pm,
free. This pre-fireworks concert gives a
sampling of what the Bosun's Call features on Saturday. Village of

Hoah! Back by popular demand! The Bosun's Call presented last summer at the
site's North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical, their second time at the
historic site. Created in 2015, the group helps foster an interest in the
songs, folkways, and culture of the maritime world. Their songbook, with over 50 songs, is
researched and compiled from primary sources. During performances, they share
historical anecdotes, fascinating tales, and cultural traditions about life at
sea. The group has a sharp sense of humor as well! By singing songs and sharing
artifacts and stories, the group illustrates how all sailors coped and bonded
while living aboard ship. They honor all those who served during the Age of
Sail from Native Americans to African Americans to Anglo Americans as well as
those who supported life aboard ship including women and children. A typical performance has members
in period correct uniforms with accouterments including ditty bags (stuffed
with artifacts), walking sticks, and tankards of water. Join us! Huzza!

Harbor's Can-Am Festival centers on the waterfront to celebrate
Canadian-American heritage. On the Battlefield historic site's lawn, the
dramatic arrival and landing of US army helicopters from Fort Drum always draws
a crowd. Visit the soldiers and climb into the pilot's cockpit seat. Stay until
the helicopters take off to get the full dramatic experience of these powerful rotorcraft.

A living history exhibit! An 18th
century blacksmithing re-enactor who presented last summer at the site's North
American War of 1812 Grand Tactical was the traveling blacksmith Jymm who attracted
crowds as he demonstrated blacksmithing and explained the role of early
American traveling blacksmiths. Back by popular demand! Jymm returns to the
historic site for two full days of demonstrations. A traveling forge with a limber made
up wagons designed as blacksmith shops on wheels, carrying essential blacksmith
equipment and farriers to both shoe horses and repair wagons and artillery
equipment.

much-acclaimed presenters travel the world to educate on Native American
culture, history, song, and dance, from pre-contact to modern contemporary
Indigenous culture with emphasis on historical material culture for 17th, 18th,
and 19th centuries. Jordan
teaches culture to students in the Niagara Wheatfield school district (K-12)
and is currently the head of Native education at Old Fort Niagara historic site
in Youngstown, New York. Kehala, a fifth-generation
beadworker, is the creator and designer of Kreations by Kehala, which features
Native American beadwork, jewelry, clothing, and statement pieces. She also
serves as the assistant social dance teacher to the youth on the Tuscarora
Reservation and is a Native American dance presentation coordinator and dancer. They
share stories about their culture, costuming, and traditions, and engage guests
in conversation about the past, present, and future of their people. They also
demonstrate and display culturally meaningful objects and materials, including
woven baskets, slippery elm bark, and wampum belts.
