Lake Taghkanic State Park Master Plan Development Public Meetings Scheduled

The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) invites all interested parties to participate in the development of a Draft Master Plan/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft MP/DEIS) for Lake Taghkanic State Park, located in the towns of Taghkanic and Gallatin, Columbia County, NY. Two public meetings will be held, one virtual and one in-person, to discuss the master planning process. The same content will be presented at both meetings, and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide their ideas for the park.

The virtual (online) meeting will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. OPRHP staff will provide an overview of the master planning process, followed by an open discussion about the park with participants. Registration is free and required for the online meeting only. To participate in the meeting, send an email to LakeTaghkanic.Plan@parks.ny.gov and you will receive a registration link.

The in-person meeting will be held Thursday, November 2, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., at Taghkanic Fire Co. #1, 631 Old Route 82, Taghkanic, NY. The meeting will begin with a brief presentation followed by a discussion. No registration is required.

OPRHP welcomes all input and encourages interested parties to attend these meetings. We hope that your schedule will allow you to participate. However, if you are unable to join at either time, a recording will be publicly available on the OPRHP website (https://parks.ny.gov/inside-our-agency/master-plans.aspx). Questions, comments, or ideas regarding Master Plan may also be submitted by email: LakeTaghkanic.Plan@parks.ny.gov, or standard mail to: Megan Zimba, Park Planner, Division of Environmental Stewardship and Planning, NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12238. All comments must be submitted or postmarked by Friday, December 1, 2023.

The meeting is accessible to people with disabilities. Anyone who requires a reasonable accommodation for effective communications should contact Owen Gilbo at Owen.Gilbo@parks.ny.gov or at (518) 402-2648 as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.

Thank you in advance for your interest. If you have any questions, please contact LakeTaghkanic.Plan@parks.ny.gov or Linda Cooper, Regional Director for the Taconic Region at: Linda.Cooper@parks.ny.gov.
