New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic
Preservation (OPRHP) will hold a public information meeting to share the
results of an engineering study of Martin Dunham Dam. The meeting will be
Wednesday, June 11 from 6-8pm at Tamarac Middle and High School at 3992 NY-2,
Troy, NY 12180.
The engineering consulting firm Stantec will present
information on the dam's condition and options for the dam's future, including
rehabilitation or removal (decommissioning). Dunham Dam is owned by OPRHP,
operated as part of Grafton Lakes State Park. The dam controls the Martin
Dunham Reservoir in Rensselaer County. The reservoir, located in an undeveloped
area of the park on the south side of Route 2, is one of five ponds or water
bodies within the park. While it was originally built to provide water for the
City of Troy, the reservoir is not currently a public drinking water source.
The public meeting is being held in advance of any
determination of a remediation strategy. Public comments following the
presentation are welcome.
