The Aqueduct along Amsterdam Avenue Walk

Most of the Old Croton Aqueduct in Manhattan ran under Amsterdam Avenue. Walk along this route and learn why that avenue was chosen, see vestiges of the aqueduct today, and immerse yourself in the historic and present-day activities of this part of Manhattan. Meet in front of the Highbridge Recreation Center at 173rd St. and Amsterdam Ave. We will end the walk in front of the gatehouse at 135th St. Public restrooms are available at the beginning and end of the walk. For this two-hour walk, wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The walk begins with the descent of a five-story staircase. Walk may be rescheduled if weather does not cooperate.
