Bike Ride and Hike to High Point at Sam’s Point
Thursday, October 2, 2025 09:30 AM - 02:30 PM
Join Laura Conner,
Environmental Educator, for an approximately 14-mile round trip bike ride along
the scenic carriage roads that lead to the Sam's Point Area and a hike on the
footpath to High Point. Starting along the Lake Minnewaska Carriage Road, that takes us to the start of the Upper
Awosting Carriage Road. Along the way, we'll pass through dense forest, stopping to enjoy distant views
of Rainbow Falls along our route. Once at Lake Awosting, we'll pedal around the
west side until we reach the Smiley Carriage Road. This route delves into the
backcountry and does include one, long, incline that some may find challenging.
At the intersection with High Point Carriage Road, we'll follow this route
through pristine forests and across open areas where the sun pours down. When
we reach the trailhead for High Point Footpath, we'll lock our bikes and take a
half-mile hike to the top, where the views are nearly panoramic. Participants must bring
their own bikes, helmets and other equipment as well as food and water. Only
Class 1, pedal-assist, electric bikes are allowed in the Park Preserve. This
program is recommended for those capable of biking this distance and route. All
participants should be able to maintain a modest pace so that the group
finishes on time. Meet at the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center Upper Parking Lot.
Pre-registration is required by calling the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center
at 845-255-0752.
