Slow-Paced Spring Hike Around Lake Maratanza at Sam’s Point

Minnewaska State Park Preserve: Sam's Point Area
Join Becca Howe-Parisio, Sam's Point Educator, to celebrate the
arrival of spring. We'll walk the three-mile-long Loop Road to search for signs
of spring. Features of this hike include a stop at the Sam's Point vista, a
close-up view of the charred forest resulting from the 2016 Sam's Point Fire, a
walk through the dwarf Pitch Pine Barrens, a stroll along the edge of Lake
Maratanza and a parting glance at the historical Berry-Picker Shack remains. If conditions are icy, participants are encouraged to bring micro spikes
or other ice traction devices. Meet at the Sam's Point Visitor Center. Pre-registration is required
by calling the Sam's Point Visitor Center at 845-647-7989.

Drop-In Snowshoe Lessons at Sam’s Point Preserve

Minnewaska State Park Preserve: Sam's Point Area
This opportunity is being offered at 11:00 a.m. every Saturday in
December, January, February, and March, weather permitting. It is designed for
people who are beginners, interested in trying snowshoeing as a new winter
activity. Each session will be run by a Sam's Point employee, who will provide
instruction on how to properly wear and adjust the snowshoes, as well as work
with you until you are ready to head out on your favorite trail with
confidence. The lesson may last up to one hour. Snowshoes are available to rent
for this program at a discounted rate of $5 per person at the Sam's Point
Visitor Center.
Guided Hike to View the Solar Eclipse at Sam’s Point

Minnewaska State Park Preserve: Sam's Point Area
Join Park Educators, for a
guided walk on the Loop Road to view the solar eclipse from the Sam's Point
cliff. Along the way, we'll discuss the history of solar eclipses and how they
occur. At 94% coverage, the eclipse should be very visible from here. Bring
your own viewing glasses if you have them, otherwise, the Park Preserve will
have some to share. Remember to learn more about eclipse safety for your eyes
before using cameras and binoculars too! We will finish the remainder of Loop
Road after the eclipse gets through totality. Meet at the Sam's Point Visitor
Center. Pre-registration is required by calling the Sam's Point Visitor
Center at 845-647-7989.

13th Annual I Love My Park Day at Sam’s Point

Minnewaska State Park Preserve: Sam's Point Area
This event is part of more than 100 cleanup, improvement and
beautification events happening statewide. I Love My Park Day is an exciting
statewide event to improve and enhance New York's State Parks and historic
sites and bring visibility to the entire state park system and its needs.
Volunteers will clean up park lands and beaches, plant trees and gardens,
restore trails and wildlife habitat, remove invasive species and work on
various site improvement projects. Specific events will be listed shortly. Call
the Lake Minnewaska Visitor Center at 845-255-0752 or the Sam's Point Visitor
