Tiny Tots: Solar Eclipse
Friday, March 29, 2024 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Jones Beach State Park
What is the Sun? And have you ever heard of an "Eclipse"? Let's create our own Sun and Moon to take home, read a story, and learn about the wonderful and magical phenomenon of a "Solar Eclipse". This will be the first time most children of this age ever encounter a solar eclipse. The program will start with a paper craft simulating the sun, earth, and moon to show how the solar and lunar eclipses work. We'll read some story books to demystify and make the solar eclipse event less frightening for children, and then we'll finish with a play dough activity modeling our solar system. Registration Eventbrite, #natureedventure.

Education table with glasses and information. Glasses distributed at JBENC and also by educators posted by Jones Beach Administration / Central Mall Boardwalk. Educators and Park Rangers will walk around with a made viewer and talk to the public, handing out glasses as Educators are roaming. Environmental Educators will partner with Professors and Graduate Students from Stony Brook University Geosciences and Astronomy and Planetary Sciences departments to educate park patrons during the eclipse event. Educators from the south deck at the Center will lead a talk two hours prior to the start of the eclipse called "Eclipse and You" about eclipse safety, and then go around roaming to groups gathered for the Eclipse. For everyone gathered at the Center, the staff will be attentive and continue to provide glasses and fun facts!
