Meet at the Visitor Center. Join us for an exploration into the material histories of the objects and artworks in Clermont's collections. Just as the current interpretation of the site seeks to shed light on the life and legacies of the enslaved people, servants, and laborers who worked at Clermont, this tour will uncover the connections the collection maintains to systems of trade, industry, and labor through the materiality of the objects themselves. From silver to mother-of-pearl to the pigment used to capture the likeness of the most prominent Livingstons, this material exploration will seek to expand our understanding of the origins of this collection by discussing who and what went into making it. Today, hear from the lady herself as she shares what it was like to be from two influential and local families, to mother ten children, and to see this house burned and rebuilt. Meet at Arryl North Lawn, near the main parking lotFounded in 1999 by violinist and director Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz, the group specializes in music performed in America during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Many of the performing materials are drawn from the Special Collections of the New York State Library. In 2002, Musicians of Ma'alwyck performed by invitation for television producer Norman Lear in celebration of his purchase of the last private copy of the Declaration of Independence. Musicians of Ma'alwyck has been presented on National Public Radio, WMHT-FM and WMHT-TV. In 2009 the ensemble produced the 1783 opera The Poor Soldier by William Shield, drawing national attention. Musicians of Ma'alwyck was named the best chamber music ensemble of the Capital Region for both 2008 and 2009 by Metroland. This past season the ensemble commissioned an opera about the woman suffrage movement, which premiered last June. Titled Aleda or the Flight of the Suff Birdwomen, and written by Max Caplan, the opera received high artistic praise. Please note: Harmonies on the Hudson concert series is presented free of charge by the Friends of Clermont. All Harmonies on the Hudson concerts are weather permitting.
