Home Ecologist is a program geared towards home school families with children primarily ages 6-12 (ages 12+ on 1st pm of the month & 2nd am of the month). Each month will focus on a different theme. Programs are free of charge, and pre-registration is required. After taking a break from our Winter Lecture Series due to the pandemic we are excited to be bringing it back with a few enhancements! When we were unable to safely provide in-person programming, Humphrey Nature Center staff began recording our most popular field trip programs to share with teachers and the public. These recorded programs were so well received that they have helped to create a new YouTube channel for Letchworth State Park that is set to launch January 2022. Each Winter Lecture Series program in 2022 will feature one of the pre-recorded videos with added commentary and discussion from Humphrey Nature Center staff.  Each program day, the featured video will also be released publicly on the Letchworth YouTube channel so that those not comfortable or able to join us in person can still enjoy!

Nature Snowshoe Walks

Slower paced journey in search of animal stories in the snow and the hidden life on tree bark. Each nature snowshoe walk meets at the Humphrey Nature Center and will consist of a review of snowshoe types before exploring a mile or so of winter wonderland. These snowshoe walks will be nature walks if the snow does not provide adequate snow depth. We also have some snowshoes that may be borrowed. Adventure Nature Ski Hike

Letchworth State Park

On Sunday at 10 am, January 23, a three or four mile ski hike for the advanced skier will meet at Trailside Lodge. Skiers will be following a variety of sections of the 15-mile ski trail system that is bounded by Pine Pond, Castile Entrance, Cabin Area B and Inspiration Point with views of the Great Bend Gorge and Portage Canyon. If adequate ski conditions do not exist, a two-mile nature hike will replace the ski hike.

Knee-High Naturalist Program

The Knee-High Naturalists program is designed to allow children ages 3 - 6 (must be accompanied by an adult) to explore the natural world.  Themes change with each program, and activities may include storybook reading, crafts, or a short nature walk.  Registration is required by calling (585) 493-3682.   

This program will be held every other Monday (January 10 - March 21), from 10:30am – 11:30am in the Humphrey Nature Center at Letchworth State Park.

Meet at Hogsback Overlook (1 mile south of G.W Harvey Pool at north end of park).

See this unique landform from the western rim of the canyon. These 10 am hikes are for those who wish the thrill of a more demanding nature walk over hill and dale and often in the remote reaches of Letchworth State Park. Bring a lunch and be prepared for the weather during the several hours outing.

Cross Country Nature Ski Hikes

Each nature ski hike meets at Trailside Lodge and will consist of a review of cross country skiing basics and maneuvers before exploring a mile or more of winter wonderland. These ski hikes will be nature walks and will meet at the Humphrey Nature Center if the snow does not provide adequate ski conditions. If you have any questions or need other information, please call ahead.

The Knee-High Naturalists program is designed to allow children ages 3 - 6 (must be accompanied by an adult) to explore the natural world.  Themes change with each program, and activities may include storybook reading, crafts, or a short nature walk.  Registration is required by calling (585) 493-3682.   

This program will be held every other Monday (January 10 - March 21), from 10:30am – 11:30am in the Humphrey Nature Center at Letchworth State Park.
