This 90-minute guided hike will lead visitors through the park, exploring the history of three historic estates: from Staatsburgh's founding as a gentleman's farm in the 1700s to the development of The Point and Stonehurst estates in the 19th century. The hike is approximately 1.5 miles of uneven terrain, requiring study footwear. Reservations required:

Explore composition and the effects of light and shadow. Learn how to break down the landscape into simple shapes with areas of different values; (lights, mid-tones and darks). Then try your hand at creating "thumbnail sketches". All materials will be provided. Appropriate for teens and adults. No previous drawing experience is needed. TR Hamilton, President of the American Country House Foundation and Director of Preservation & Collections for the Webb Deane Stevens Museum in Wethersfield, CT, will discuss the complex journey of Staatsburgh's founder, Morgan Lewis, from young revolutionary to aged statesmen. Lewis embodies the story of how many founding fathers transitioned America into a modern nation. His story and that of many of his contemporaries is brought back to life through tangible remnants in art and architecture. A short reception with light refreshments, in the mansion's dining room, will take place after the presentation. Reservations required:
